The deadline is tonight at 6:30pm GMT. That is 5:30am Saturday in Sydney and 7:30am in Auckland, so if you are reading this in Australia or New Zealand, do your transfers now and go back to sleep. The football will punish you in its own time.
Gameweek 10 is a full ten-match round, Friday night to Sunday teatime. Then the Premier League goes quiet for the international break, and the next deadline is not until Saturday 21 November. That is two weeks of staring at your squad and regretting things. Make this one count.
The short version
- Captain: Haaland is the safe choice, Evanilson is the form choice, and Nicolas Jackson is the spicy choice.
- Sell: João Pedro and Saka, both injured, both gone for a while.
- Watch: Konsa, Calvert-Lewin and Thomas, who all have fitness doubts. Check the news before the deadline.
- Cheap and good: Van Hecke at £5.0m scored 15 points last week.
- Differentials: Ayari, Vuskovic and Neto, owned by almost nobody.
Last week in three facts
- The average manager scored 47. The best score in the world was 122. Somewhere in the middle sits you.
- Haaland was captained by more managers than any other player and returned 2 points, in a game Manchester City lost 1-0 at home to Brighton. 79.1% of managers still own him. We are all in this together, and the together is going badly.
- The top scorer of the week was Spurs defender Van Hecke, with 15 points. He costs £5.0m and 12% of managers own him. The other 88% are fine, apparently.
The table after nine games: Arsenal lead with 24 points, after winning eight of their nine. Manchester City have 21, Brighton 19, Chelsea 16 and Liverpool 15. At the bottom are Sunderland on 5, Nottingham Forest on 6, and Manchester United and Crystal Palace on 7.
Captain: the three realistic options
| Player | Fixture | Price | Owned | Form |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Haaland (Man City) | At Nottingham Forest, Sat 5:30pm | £15.8m | 79.1% | 7.2 |
| Evanilson (Bournemouth) | At Ipswich, Sun 2pm | £6.4m | 19.4% | 8.5 |
| Nicolas Jackson (Aston Villa) | At Man Utd, Sun 4:30pm | £7.0m | 26.9% | 8.2 |
Haaland has a very good fixture. Forest are 19th with 6 points, and the official FPL difficulty rating for City's trip is 2 out of 5. He also has 7.41 expected goal involvements this season. The only reasons not to captain him are that he scored 2 last week and nearly everyone else will captain him too. Those are not nothing.
Evanilson is the form pick. Bournemouth travel to Ipswich, another rating of 2, and he is the most bought player this gameweek, with about 560,000 transfers in. He is not exactly a secret, but he is cheaper than Haaland by £9.4m, which buys a lot of other players.
Nicolas Jackson is the pick for people who enjoy stress. He scored 9 last week, 439,000 managers bought him, and Villa visit a Manchester United side in 17th. It is a rating of 3. Draw your own conclusions.
Who to sell
- João Pedro (Chelsea, £7.7m): thigh injury, no return date, and out for the weekend trip to Sunderland. 928,000 managers sold him this week, more than any other player. Join them.
- Saka (Arsenal, £9.5m): thigh injury, no return date. Arsenal have not said how long. Reports suggest weeks, not days.
- Semenyo (Manchester City, £8.2m): knee injury, no return date.
- Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United, £11.7m): not injured, just expensive. He scored 2 points last week. That is £5.85m per point. We checked.
Doubts to check before 6:30pm
- Konsa (Arsenal, £4.8m): knee, 75% chance of playing. He is owned by 23.3% of managers and has the best form of any player in the game at 9.2.
- Calvert-Lewin (Leeds, £6.1m): foot, 75% chance.
- Thomas (Coventry, £4.0m): calf, 50% chance.
The deadline falls before the first kick-off, so you cannot wait for Everton against Coventry to tell you what to do. Nothing Everton does will help.
Who to buy
The most bought players this week are Evanilson, Nicolas Jackson, Tavernier of Bournemouth (about 380,000 transfers in), Isak of Liverpool (about 299,000) and Van Hecke (about 277,000). The crowd has opinions. The crowd was also wrong about Haaland last week.
Two other stories are worth a look:
- Brighton defender De Cuyper is the highest-scoring player in the game, with 69 points. He costs £5.4m, which is £10.4m less than Haaland, who has 68. Brighton have a home game with Brentford.
- Arsenal's defence hosts Hull City, who carry the hardest away rating in the round, a 5 out of 5. Raya (£6.2m), Calafiori (£5.9m) and Gabriel (£8.0m) are the usual suspects, and Gabriel has the best form of the three at 8.2.
Differentials: owned by under 10%
| Player | Team | Price | Owned | Form |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ayari (MID) | Brighton | £5.4m | 1.7% | 7.0 |
| Vuskovic (DEF) | Brighton | £5.2m | 7.5% | 6.5 |
| Neto (MID) | Chelsea | £6.6m | 5.0% | 6.5 |
| Hill (DEF) | Bournemouth | £5.6m | 2.6% | 6.5 |
| Iwobi (MID) | Fulham | £5.4m | 1.5% | 6.0 |
Owned by almost nobody, which is either a gap in the market or a gap in your judgement. We cannot tell which. That is the game.
